EB Packaging & Printing Coating Curing

Low-Odor, Low-Migration Coatings for High-Performance Packaging

EBR roll-to-roll systems support EB overprint varnish (OPV) curing for flexible packaging, folding cartons, and metal packaging, as well as EB lamination adhesive curing for multilayer packaging films.

Packaging and printing require more than visual quality. Low odor, low migration, wear and scratch resistance, production efficiency, and recyclability are also important considerations.

Conventional lamination requires adhesives and curing time, while multilayer structures can make recycling more difficult. Thermal drying adds heat and energy consumption, and some UV systems require careful consideration of photoinitiator residues, migration, and curing performance in thicker coating layers.

EB curing uses electrons to directly initiate reactions in inks, varnishes, and adhesives, enabling rapid curing at room temperature and supporting photoinitiator-free formulations. For food, personal care, industrial, and other demanding packaging applications, EB can help achieve low odor, low migration, durable surfaces, and shorter production lead times.

What EB Can Do for Packaging

01 | EB Overprint Varnish Curing for Flexible Packaging

For flexible plastic packaging, EB can be used to cure surface overprint varnishes. In some applications, EB OPV can replace laminated protective layers, allowing products to move directly to downstream processing after curing. This can reduce curing wait time, shorten production lead times, and reduce the use of plastic protective films.

Applications: Food packaging, personal care packaging, pet food packaging, industrial flexible packaging, etc.

02 | EB Lamination Adhesive Curing

For multilayer packaging films, EB can be used to cure lamination adhesives. Compared with conventional processes, EB curing can help reduce curing time.

Applications: Multilayer flexible packaging films, functional packaging films, food packaging laminates, etc.

03 | EB Ink & Varnish Curing for Folding Cartons

For folding cartons, EB can be used to cure inks and protective varnishes on printed surfaces, helping achieve low odor, low migration, wear resistance, fold resistance, and surface protection.

Applications: Food cartons, beverage cartons, cosmetic cartons, electronics packaging, personal care packaging, etc.

04 | EB Varnish Curing for Metal Packaging

For metal packaging, EB can be used to cure protective varnishes on printed three-piece cans, can ends, and printed metal sheets.

Applications: Food cans, beverage cans, can ends, printed metal packaging materials, etc.
