EB Crosslinking for Food Packaging Films
Improved Heat Resistance, Puncture Resistance & Forming Stability
Using EBR roll-to-roll systems, controlled EB crosslinking can be applied to VSP films, shrink bags, and mono-material PE packaging structures to improve heat resistance, puncture resistance, and forming stability.
Food packaging films typically combine outer, barrier, and heat-seal layers, each with a different function. The outer layer needs to remain stable during thermoforming, vacuum skin packaging, or shrink packaging; the barrier layer must maintain structural integrity; and the inner PE heat-seal layer needs to retain the melting and sealing properties required for package closure.
The key to EB crosslinking is not simply achieving deeper penetration. The dose needs to be controlled at the target layer so that the outer layer receives sufficient crosslinking while minimizing the effect on the barrier layer, heat-seal layer, and other sensitive layers.
Based on film thickness, material density, layer structure, and target performance, EBC can evaluate the dose-depth profile, conduct sample irradiation and continuous pilot trials, and help determine the appropriate accelerating voltage, dose, line speed, and EBR system configuration.
Start with a Film Sample
Tell us about your film structure and target performance. EBC can first evaluate the required dose and conduct sample irradiation. Once the sample performance is confirmed, we can further evaluate roll-to-roll pilot conditions and the appropriate EBR system configuration.
